Up until recently, I always saw myself as being quite an extrovert. I enjoy being part of groups, love being outspoken and never stepped away from challenges. I assumed this made me extroverted in nature. Recently, having entered into a new life journey, my view has changed. Having to explore, explain and talk about what I do isn’t as easy as I thought it would be. Putting myself in front of people is well ….. new and very unknown! I watched this really interesting and passionate Ted talk by Susan Cain. She talks about a culture where being social and outgoing are prized above all and that it can be difficult to be an introvert. I hadn’t ever thought about introversion in this way but her video certainly made me reconsider whether I felt this way making it easier to say I was an extrovert over introvert. I personally think that people can slip in and out of being introvert or extrovert depending on the situation but we definitely do have a preference. Check the video out – it is really thought provoking.
